Brooklyn's Yolanda Wyns Plays Sofia in "The Color Purple" With American Idol Winner, Fantasia at the Broadway Theater! Wednesday, October 3-6, 2007

Yolanda Wyns has done it again, cast for a second time as Miss Sofia in Oprah Winfrey's Tony Award Winning Broadway show "The Color Purple" from October 3-6.

    /Performing Arts PR News/ - ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ, October 04, 2007 - Yolanda Wyns has done it again, cast for a second time as Miss Sofia in Oprah Winfrey's Tony Award Winning Broadway show "The Color Purple" from October 3-6.

Yolanda a Brooklyn native is already apart of this magnificent cast as Church Lady Doris. She will now be playing Sofia, the debut roll that contributed to Oprah's success as an actor. Even though she will be playing the roll for a short time, her presence in this roll will blow the audience by storm and make critiques chatter about her spectacular performance.

"I am honored and blessed to be a part of this phenomenal production," says Ms. Wyns. "Joining the cast of "The Color Purple" is a personal testimony of patience, fortitude and faith." She continues, "This story, with all of its emotional complexity is beautifully told and illustrates the triumph of the African-American spirit. The brilliance, vividness, and humanity of "The Color Purple" are something audiences will never forget."

Yolanda Wyns has appeared in other acting roles including off-Broadway musical productions of Black Nativity, God's Creation, and Sing About Love. She began singing as a little girl in church, later touring with Freddie Jackson, Stephanie Mills, and Angie Stone. Her recordings include, "Many Faces," and her gospel release, "A Live Recording of Praise and Worship."

The Broadway production of "The Color Purple" is based on the novel by Alice Walker. With the addition of American Idol winner, Fantasia in the role of Celie, the show has attracted new audiences. "The Color Purple" opened on Broadway at the Broadway Theater on December 1, 2005 and is directed by Gary Griffin and produced by Oprah Winfrey and Quincy Jones. The show's choreography is by Donald Byrd.
