Surprising Book is the Play of the Year

Author/Playwright MG Hardie's EveryDay Life by any standard is the play of the year. Even those who may not have read the book can't wait to see it on stage.

LONG BEACH, CA, January 19, 2009 /Performing Arts PR News/ -- Stage plays are usually viewed as fictionalized high brow theater productions, odd costumes, and characters speaking in seldom used literary terms. The music, singing and dancing that is normally in these works usually leaves the audience wondering where this is all coming from. Most of them have these exaggerated characters and peculiar writers who refuse to explain their work using all the metaphors or allegories they can find. Since High School we have all seen or read a play and for lack of qualification only the critics wonder about time-line and tone issues.

Many reviewers have written that what makes EveryDay Life special is that it is a play. EveryDay Life is the best reviewed and acclaimed play to be released on America's shores in a long time that fact that it is a play is not what makes it special. The way in which EveryDay life is written conveys the reading of a novel. From beginning to end EveryDay Life takes everything you were told a play is or about and does the complete opposite in a special fashion. It is non-fiction pop-culture inspired work, with familiar speaking characters and no singing (except bad singing with a purpose) or musical numbers, yet the reviews of this book have been surprisingly stellar. The playfully surprising hip-hop feel and the amount of content on Hardie's website, http://www.myspace.com/mghardie, is the first indication that this play is anything but typical.

When a reviewer declares that "the characters in EveryDay Life taught me more than I could ever imagine", you know you've done something very special. "When I wrote it I knew it was different from anything previous. I just thought that people would say that it was funny", says Hardie. EveryDay Life has been called hilarious, and probably the funniest book ever written, it is not often that an author garners these types of praise. A Professor of Theater Arts has this to say about MG Hardie's work, "I loved your handling of contemporary language and you mixed wit and intelligence with great dialogue". And another university professor said "I loved how you mixed humor with very savvy socio-political messages". When reading the reviews of EveryDay Life it becomes obvious that this is not your father's play or your mother's for that matter. Hardie remains humble even in the face of being compared to playwrights Tyler Perry and Lorraine Hansberry and the play is not even in production yet.

The reader is the gadfly in this presentation of energetic, philosophical, satirically funny characters. EveryDay Life follows the real life struggle of a young man as he tries to reconcile his present outward condition with the dreams within him. The play explores race as a part of the everyday American experience by dealing with age-old discussions, such as relationships, foreign policy, drug usage, class, politics and responsibility. A recent review of EveryDay Life said that "Hardie delves into unchartered territories" and with the stage play perhaps dating as far back as 1000 BC, apparently President Obama isn't the only one who thinks it is time for a change.
